Question:

Why is my tub filling so slow with this new tub spout?

My old tub spout was great. It would fill the tub fast. But with time things decay. So we went and got a whole new tub, surround and spout. This is one of those spouts that does it all shower and tub.

The new spout is rated at 14 Gallons Per Minute. I have a gallon bucket and with a little math I expected to fill the bucket in a little over 4 seconds. No dice. I barely got a quarter full.

When I added the new spout I had to add some new plumbing. Namely 2 elbows. One on both the hot and the cold.

I have spent all day ensuring that the shut off valves are open. And my house does have adequate water pressure.

What could be causing my lack of flow?

  1. Maybe something lodged in the valve. Take it apart and clean it; while it's apart have a helper turn on the water for you to blow the crud out.

I had the same problem with a shower valve - wood shavings got into the pipe and swelled up, clogging the valve.
