Why is my water pressure low throughout my house?

I live in a split level home and the other night there was a bad rain storm and the next morning the carpet in the basement was soaked and the rugs in the laundry area.There is a drain down there,could water have come up through that drain?And does it have anything to do with the low water pressure?Help!

Water in the basement is due to water leaks; you need to make sure the sump pump works and is large enough to do the job; it sounds like it may be too small..

Low water pressure is not directly related.  I suspect the water utility had distribuion problems.

sound like you have a broken water main.

I'm not a plumber but I have had something to do with water pressure;

1. There is air in the pipes which has to be purged by turning the main tap in the bathroom on full.

If this doesn't work

2. There is a leak from your pipes which must be corrected by a qualified plumber.

Always make sure you check out tradesmen's credentials before letting them work.
