Question:

Why is my water softener overflowing?

About two months ago our area had some bad fires adn the FD had the power turned off to half the city. I turned off the breakers and didn't turn them back on until after power had been restored. About a week later I noticed huge puddles on my garage floor. I realized that the salt receptacle on my softener was bulging. It had been filling up with water up to the overflow outlet. Now, each time the system regenerates, the bucket overflows. I already tried emptying it, washing it, and filling it with fresh salt, but it still overflows. Any ideas? TIA

  1. you may have dirt buildup in the ventri nozzle(gives the suction to allow the brine to enter resin tank). you best best bet is to look at your manual to see the best way to clean it. if you don't have one you should be able to download a manual

  2. Water softeners have a valve that lets water into the chamber when it is recharging.  This is usually a float valve and ususally sticks through the top of the unit.  If this valve got stuck during your outage it probably has not worked since.  Find the rod and move it up and down a few times to clear the valve and recheck.

  3. Inside your brine tank is a large tube running down into the bottom. Inside this is a rod with a foot valve on the bottom. This valve is stuck. It may also be worn out. I would replace it altogether just for piece of mind. They are made of plastic, and not very expensive.
