Why is the WSJ circulation increasing, then, if it's just the on-line competition?

Could it be at least partially related to....... content?

  1. Hate dealing with three pound of paper to get three onces of news.

  2. I believe this is because former readers are fed up with media bias and the same stories being reported week after week. At least on television one can change the channel and not have to view stories on serial killing, child pornography or some other maddening perversion that occurs daily.  It also appears that most media outlets get their "news" from the same sources, so it becomes redundant in a hurry. Electronic media delivers more "up-to-the-moment" items as well. With this in mind who could blame people for preferring entertainment viewing rather than re-hashed and dated news feeds?

  3. Internet has news on the fly. The newspaper is yesterdays news

  4. Yes.  So is the average vocabulary.

  5. Too many ads & people get their news from TV & the Internet.

  6. It's easier to get the news online.

  7. Because people don't want to take the time to read the paper!  They think they can get a good grasp on things in a 20 min. TV news report, that is broken into time & again with commercials, so can never give you the full picture!

  8. Back in the day, it seemed everyone on public transport had a newspaper. Now 3 out of 5 have a laptop or PDA off sorts. I still subscibe for local news, and pick up a WSJ when I have time to read it, but get most of the national/international stuff via TV backed up by the Internet when things get interesting.

Can't beat WSJ for financial and business news.  I'm sure their circulation goes up when the economy falters.  We've had a lot lately,

  9. Because more people are getting their news from the internet and the numerous television news stations. Have you noticed how stations like CNN, MSNBC, FOX News and others have to advertise now? It's because most people only use one or two news sources. The competition for news agencies is taking a toll on papers. Unfortunately, news papers are being read less and less.

  10. You can get the news faster and more up the minute via the internet and television... and with the expansive "green movement", its not ecologically smart to use that much paper.  Its easier just to cut it off, than recycle it after the fact.

  11. Bedause you can more news online and a greater variety of opinions.
