Why is night vision green?

I know nv uses infared, but i dont know why its green.

  1. the circuit that produces the image puts out that color.

    it may be that they decided it would be good because it causes less disruption to the vision you'd have when the night vision system fails.

    keep in mind, it makes little difference what color the object you're looking at is.

    it's almost as if there's a shadow, from the object, on the other side of a sheet.

    and the system makes that "heat shadow" visible to you.

  3. i think the companies that make night vision goggles do that just because it looks cool. Plus, green has a lot of contrast between shades, so it's easy to differentiate between two things that look alike.
