  1. No one is talking about second round picks because they have not played a single game in the NBA yet. If they were good enough to be talked about without playing in the NBA yet, they would not have been second round picks...

  2. monta ellis

    ronny turiaf

    daniel gibson

    leon powe

    michael redd

    memhet okur

    cuttino mobley

  3. No one cares about most just care about top 14

  4. Terry Dischinger, to my knowledge is that last player to win rookie of the year out of the second round. at that was in 1963.

besides Arenas didn't have that big of an impact his first year, neither did michael redd, manu ginobili, carlos boozer, monta ellis, or rashard lewis.

most of the reasons are similar. under scouted or scouts believing that those players reached their potential in college... or that they weren't ready for the league (high schoolers) or don't have a particular position like arenas (is he a shooting point guard or a small shooting guard?) and lewis (is he a  tall small forward, or a thin power forward?).

really there are more disappointments in the first round. kwame brown, darko, todd fuller, harold minor, ed o'bannon, shawn bradley, sam bowie, mateen cleeves... thats just to name a few as there will be this year as well.

the draft is as much a gamble as it is a lottery.

  5. Because they Rarely make an impact in the NBA. Sure there are a small percentage; however look at the statistics, its tiny. Only budding a few stars.

  6. Some players good enough to be taken in the first round sometimes last into the second round when teams are scared of their injury status.  A good example of this is Monta Ellis is 2005, when he was a very good player coming out of high school (five-star player ranked #2 in SG, which usually means a first round pick) battling a knee injury.

  7. the second round picks have yet to prove themselves but there are many second round picks that turned into stars

    Gilbert Arenas (2001)

    Monta Ellis (2005)

    Manu Ginobili (1999)

    Michael Redd (2000)

    Mehmet Okur (2001)

    Jason Kapono (2003)

    Nick Van Exel (1993)

    Voshon Lenard (1994)

    Rashard Lewis (1998)

    Spud Webb (1985)
