We can't dispose of the waste and nobody wants it buried in their backyard.

It is complicated and dangerous

It can be replaced with various solar alternatives

  1. The "waste" CAN be dealt with.  I say "waste" because it can still be used to generate power, the technology just isn't economic yet.  In 50 years it may be cheaper to put "spent" nuclear fuel into a GenIV reactor and get more energy out of it.  The alternative of deep geological disposal is SAFE.  How do we know?  Because mother nature did it millions of years before we did, and we're not suffering any consequences of that process.  Look up the Oklo Reactors and you'll read about NATURAL nuclear reactions.

It's not complicated, nor is it anymore dangerous than working at any other power plant.  The only problem is paranoia and ignorance in the general public.

You CANNOT replace a nuclear reactor with solar alternatives.  They just simply do not have the capacity to match the power output of a nuclear reactor without covering REDICULOUS amounts of land, AND creating its own UNREGULATED and UNMONITORED wastes in the form of toxic heavy metals used in the production of high efficiency solar cells.

If you are convinced still that nuclear power isn't the solution.  Turn off your computer, unscrew all your light bulbs, and live in complete darkness without power.  Then get the rest of North America to do the same thing, and only THEN will we be able to use the sun to solve our energy problems.

  2. The Socialist French use it, so it must be good.

  3. Because Commonwealth Edison is making it necessary so they can stay in business.   They have all sorts of reasons it is the best kind of energy.  Oh, I know, I live within 20 miles of 3 of them nuclear power plants.

  4. It's our best option for large scale power.
