It's his preference. I'm half black & half white and out of being called black or white, I'd chose black. I look more black then white & so does Obama.

At one point in american law, if an individual was part black, then they were all black.  This was called the One Drop Rule.  Obama and many other people who are half black and half Caucasian are usually treated as if they are completely black.  So although he is biologically a biracial person, society looks at him as a black.  I, myself am also biracial with one black parent and one white and have been harrassed with the N-word.  Nobody has ever said to me, "your a half n-word" or "you are the child of a N." Think of how many people refer to Asians as Chinese simply because of their skin tone or eye shape.  Many people who are korean, vietnamese, japanese, etc along with other nationalities are often labeled as Chinese just because of the ignorant thought "They all look alike"

years ago the rule was if you had any black heritage you were black. Now the rule is whatever race your mother is you are.

The church one attends does not identify your race.  Are you saying that any white person attending Obama's church is black?

Your  mother's race doesn't identify race either.  People kill me with these labels.

i don't no why he calls himself black i'd be happier if he would identify being BIRACIAL since that's exactly what he is  but it's his decision i guess

  Well he has the best of both worlds being half White and half African American.Maybe the Blacks accepted him more than the white side so he expresses black his dominant race.It seems like he endured much love from his family members growing up so he has a positive way at looking at different races.
