Why is one upmanship so common?

Hi Ishan, best, yet simplest answer I can think of is that some people , no matter who, or over what, have to be, or at least think they are the best.

They may well not be, and in most cases are not, but in their eyes, if they can puit one over someone else, then it makes their day.

Jealousy is very common and the desire to show off are too inherent. Unless these are moderated by a deeper understanding and wisdom, they will surface and read their heads in one form or the other.

it is our natural instinct to survive better than other members of the species. so competition is ingrained into our DNA.
