If this is true, do the people of New Orleans have a right to complain about the government? Why are thousands stuck in trailers that according to the CDC, are trailers that place them at risk for cancer? Why do crooked corrupt people keep getting elected in New Orleans and at the State Capitol? Did not a Governor of New Orleans go to prison? Did not the governor sit at watch suffering after Hurricane Katrina for 4 days with out doing anything?

  1. Actually, the turnout yesterday was a bit over 500,000 for LA, which was almost 20% of the regisered voters.  That is a higher percentage than NY (mentioned below).  The turnout for New Orleans was about 43,000. No one knows exactly how many people live in New Orleans now, but the population is estimated at 300,000.  That means abour 25% of the registered voters living in NOLA cast ballots yesterday.

    --------------------------------------...

First, the voting today is NOT to elect someone to office.  The voting today is for pre-election "primaries" and the turnout for such events is always lower than for a regular election. In fact, 15% will be higher than in the past for LA.

That is also true in ALL of the other states that have had primaries or caucuses this year.  For example only about 2.2 million votes were cast in New York state out of 12 million registered voters (which is about 18%).

Second, you can only vote for your own party's candidates, and there are lots of Democrats in LA who are not happy with either Clinton or Obama.  They will actually vote for McCain in the presidential election but won't go to the polls today.  The turnout among Republicans will be higher as there is a competition between McCain and Huckabee, and the "religious right" will make a point of voting for Huckabee today across LA.

Third, the person who was Governor of Louisiana at the time Katrina struck did not run for re-election because of failures of leadership and competence.  A Republican won outright in the primary on a reform ticket.  Edwin Edwards is the Governor who went to jail, and he was last in office >>> 12 years ago <<<.

Finally, there is no "Governor of New Orleans". NOLA is a city and has a mayor.

In the future, please do some research before you start slinging around insults like you did in your "question".

  2. People who choose to live below sea level have a lot more to worry about than voting.

  3. If New Orleans people have no right to vote because they elected a corrupt government, then by that ridiculous logic, neither should the rest of America.
