Why is our saliva sticky/thick while we are crying or after we cry?

what could be the reason behind this?

loss of hydration, especially if one doesn't drink enough water to begin with... the loss of moisture thru tears and such will thicken secretions all over the body.

I'm not positive, but I think it's because when you cry, your nose runs and sometimes can get into your spit when you snuff it back up your nose... I know, it's gross, but it's probably because the snot gets into your saliva?
