  3. because gold is so dense and heavy, you could pan for lead if you wanted as well.  The gold just stays in the pan while you swirl out the lighter stuff

  4. Because gold is a dense metal, butr mainly because it has a very low reactivity and therefore has not reacted to form compunds with the rock around it. Because of this it can be found as a metal in the ground.

  5. Because gold is much heavier than all the dirt and sand that it's in, so it sinks to the bottom. This doesn't work as well for other metals because they aren't as dense as gold.

  6. gold is a 'noble' element

    it doesnt combine with other elements (easily) to form an ore, and so you can actually find chunks of it.

    It is heavy. It is easily visible and so makes it easy to 'pan' for
