Why is people ask questions about something they know nothing about yet think they do??

Ok so I have noticed in this and the horses forum that tons of people are on this euthanizing a horse when it breaks a leg kick. Tons of folks are bad mouthing racing , rodeo ...any type of horse sport where a horse can be injured due to what happened to George Washington int he Breeder's Cup Classic this weekend. So my questions is exactly as I put it, how can people get on here and raise h**l about it when obviously they really don't know c**p about a horse or the sport of racing or rodeo? I mean geesh you don't hear people ausing a stink when an NFL player sits out 10 games b/c of Turf Toe??? If people would stop to educate themselves on the matter, they would know that a horse's weight is supported by it's legs and they cannot be told, now be still keep that foot propped up for 6-8 weeks and you'll be ok.... They should also learn about how well the animals are treated anyway before they start calling horse owners and trainers carless & whatnot. I mean FREAK ACCIDENTS happen

  1. I agree that accidents happen, and can happen in any sport or endeavor. I do know a lot about racing- I have been following it my entire life, since long before I got my first horse. I was 11 years old ( younger than "Barbaro" is now) when I watched Ruffian break down on national TV during her match race with Foolish Pleasure. She should never have been entered in that race in the first place, and her trainer, Frank Whiteley, paid an enormous personal and professional price for her death afterwards. It ruined his career- people blamed him for her death for decades after it was all over.  So far, Barbaro's trainer and the trainer of this horse that died on Saturday have managed to avoid that fate- though how long this will last, I can't really predict.

As for how well racehorses are supposedly treated, that's a joke !! I worked for a time at a training track during the early part of my professional career, and I saw things there which I hope I NEVER, EVER SEE again anywhere !!! I saw horses which couldn't be handled without chains in their mouths- and horses which couldn't even be trusted to walk to the track without an escort from 2 outriders mounted on strong, fast horses because said animals were prone to bolting and throwing their riders without warning. I saw horses working out which were lame, and which should have been resting at home. I saw another horse, an older mare, who couldn't be stopped, for whatever reason, when her work was finished- she had to have escorts to slow her down, because she also had a tendency to buck if she was asked to slow down at the end of a work. These are all examples of the poor training and handling these animals get at the track- well treated my A** !! I have seen horses which can NEVER be tied anywhere- and ninety percent of them are off track TBs. Good care means more than just an energy rich diet and good hay. It ALSO means proper handling and training from the start- something which a LOT of young racehorses NEVER GET.  I agree that freak accidents can happen- but what happened on Saturday wasn't freakish. It was just another sad case of a preventable and senseless tragedy striking the sport- a sport that desparately needs to change and clean up its act if more such cases are to be avoided in the future.  Enough said.

  2. Well Said!  It's the same people that want to spend thousands of dollars on keeping an animal alive, just so they feel better.  It prolong's an animals suffering, and they have no choice in the matter.  Same thing happened with Barbaro.

  3. My dear friend.

It is not just horses and rodeos people know nothing about. Consider the spotted owl....Shut down whole state lumber industries to protect a bird that will nest in the next tree.

Their extinction is being brought about by being the pray of other owls.

People have to scream and bellow to get the attention their insecure butts think they need.

What makes it so stupid is people that listen to them. This way it makes idiots right and we must pay attention as there is thousands of them ranting and raving like the idiots they are.

We all feel bad about the horse, but life goes on.

When my first born got killed at 26 in a car accident, did I demand all people stop driving? Life goes on....

Except for the attention grabbers---they don't have a life they have their very own God named idiot me.

  4. Oh my god, you are TOTALLY right!!! I hate people who keep saying that horse racing is mean and like when people ask "Why does a horse get put down when it breaks his leg?" and then someone will answer "What? They do that?! I didn't know that! How mean!"

It's like, what?! Are you kidding? Why the heck would people come to answer questions in this section when they certainly don't know anything about it!!

UHHH you are just so right it gets me just as mad. And your right, freak accidents happen. Like Barbaro, people kept saying they were only keeping him alive for stud and only put him down cuz of the money problems.

Uhhmm? What? Roy and Gretchen Jackson loved that horse SO much and they are actually very depressed about him, now with George Washington gone too (who they breed), that must really suck! I feel so bad for them.

Most horse race owners/breeders/trainer/e.t.c/ usually love and take care of their horses more then you think, so go in a section that you actually know the right answers to!!!

    THANK YOU

    Geeezz...

    lol

Like, thank you for posting this!

((BTW- is that your horse in your pic? Becuase he/she is very pretty! I love dapples!))

  5. *CHEERS!* Ignorance is bliss for non horse people, if they knew what went on behind the scenes with non high profile animals they would be shocked sometimes. I commend the trainer for his quick thinking and you for syaing what we are all thinking. The media is a huge huge problem in this situation. Barbaro was blown out of proportion by them as well and I'm tired of hearing about it. It worries me when under developed horses are run or are bred with really fine bones but I'm a Vet Med Major, it's expected from me :D

I do think in the case of kdesky3  he really just wondered why and I am glad he asked instead of just saying "ooooh poor animal how cruel to kill him" like a little girl... crying for the sport to end...

  6. Your not going to make me defend myself again and others are you?  LOL    You already know how I feel on this subject. Makes me scream.............   I would have pulled that girl thru the  computer if I could have and knocked some sense into her.

Starlight**  Wow!  You really have no sense on the subject at all.  No experience either with track horses.  Did you see them at a young age and walked away from it cause you didn't take the time to understand.  Your opinion disgusts me also.  Your just like the last chic who b*tched and complained about the sport.  I can't even comment on your ignorance cause I was taught if you have nothing to say, don't say nothing at all.  I'll take that advice right now.

  7. You are preaching to the choir here!

I agree, makes ya want to just......*takes a deep breath*....

Never mind....I sympathize, and that is all I will say!

  8. Woot woot! You said it!

I totally agree! This is all coming from a felow equestrian! I wish people would just put a sock in it if they don't know about the sport and stuff!

    Forever Faithful to Barbaro<33

We all love you so much you big handsome boy!

  9. Yes, it is clear these people asking these questions don't know anything about horses. Race horses are treated well - they are worth a lot of money so they get the best care. No one wants to see them hurt. It is a shame horses are so fragile and I do think that the breeding industry bears some of the blame for the modern day Thoroughbred's lack of durability. I blame the breeders who breed for speed at the expense of soundness and strong bones. I blame the breeding industry for retiring horses to stud at age 3 (like Hard Spun and Street Sense) after a handful of races instead of actually allowing the horse to have a career and demonstrate his durability over two or three racing seasons. I also blame the industry for allowing two years olds to race. I have said before that I think two years is too young to race horses but it seems that people want to rush their two year olds into competition to earn back some of their investment on their yearling purchase. I also think horses with fracture histories should not be bred, end of story. Constantly, you hear of horses retired to stud because they had a hairline fracture. This is just passing on a predisposition to thin bones, IMO. The horse industry could take a lesson from the greyhound industry on this one. Greyhounds with any health issues are simply not bred. Hip dysplasia, which is rampant in many dog breeds is virtually non-existant in Greyhounds. Why? Because a Greyhound with hip dysplasia would never be bred.

  10. I don't really see that I can add anything useful here but unfortunately I think we will always have people who scream that anything involving horses is cruel and unnatural without ever trying to find out the facts behind the entire issue - there was a post a while ago about how cruel it is to shoe horses !

Freak accidents and sports related deaths happen all the time - some just get more media coverage than others.
