To manufacture a round box is costly.  Square is cheaper plus all Sicilian pizzas are square.

Several reasons. Square boxes are easier to fold. They leave room in the corners for sauce cups. They're probably easier to produce. Etc....

it's from when everyone baked with brick ovens. The pizzas used to be square back then but for some reason changed. sadly, the boxes did not. this is what I heard. I'm not sure it's true or not.
