Every sitting place there is called Stand. In old days, when stadiums were built, people used to stand there to watch the games. VIPs were offered chairs and they sat there but normal people used to stand there so that is why, even today, they are called Stands.

Had it been a place for just one person to watch it would have called stool since many people sit and watch its called a stand :)
