  1. Thats how the Scots spell Burgh (pronounced Burrah). Like Fraserburgh, Musselburgh, Peterburgh etc. The English equivalent would be Borough (pronounced Bow Row, as in bow tie & row boat).

  2. Actually the Scottish don't pronounce it 'Edinborough', that's how Americans tend to pronounce it. The correct pronunciation is 'Edinbrur'

  3. I'm not sure why they chose to spell it that way in English, but the scottish pronunciation of "Edinborough" comes from the Gaelic name of the city.

    Interesting fact that nobody cares about: The latin name of the city is Edina.  The only people who really care about this fact might be Minnesotans like me.
