He's one of the most talented workers the brand has, and the gimmick is quite entertaining.

Because Big Show was not legally in the Battle Royal, and "The" Brian Kendrick just so happened to be the last man in the ring when he threw everyone out. :-P

But in terms of a serious answer, WWE wants to give the smaller, more agile competitors a push. Hence CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, The Miz, Matt & Jeff Hardy, and Shelton Benjamin.

This may be an attempt to distance themselves from the steroid scandal, by showcasing guys who are not ripped out of their minds. I'd expect to see Kofi Kingston and R-Truth get similar pushes soon.

SmackDown! is also minus Umaga (torn PCL) and Mr. Kennedy (dislocated shoulder). So Brian Kendrick was the only other pushable person they had, besides maybe Big Show or Kozlov.

i dont like how people are saying oh how brian kendrick shouldnt be in this or that.

the guy is a great wrestler, yes he isnt a beast in size but this guy is great, hes been around the indys, trained with shawn micheals and is actually getting the push i feel he deserves.

and like a guy said there he can cut a promo and has some charisma, he always had potential to be good but thought his size would let him down but im glad to see him getting a chance.

Good question.  I guess mic skills and charisma really can take you a long way these days.  Because no one seems to notice that Kendrick is a Cruiser weight competing against FOUR heavy weights!  Yeah, it's great to push young talent, but does he deserve the push any more than Shelton Benjamin or MVP does?  Helllll no, he doesn't!  The only good thing about him being in it, is what the first guy said: it keeps Khali out of it.
