Question:

Why is "yo" or "tu" put at the end of a sentence?

Like if I ask my roommate if she's ready to go she'll say something like, "Si, lista estoy," instead of "Si, estoy lista." Or, a few days ago I read a post that had a lyric that said, "La tierra del borinquen donde nacido yo." The "yo" was at the end. And sometimes the "tu" is at the end of a sentence. Why is it like that? Can you do this with any sentence? Is it considered improper or is that just how things are done normally?

  1. Yes, you can do this with almost any sentence, and it wouldn't be improper. In spanish, most of the time, is your tone of voice that indicates weather you are asking a question or making an statement; you should also note that a lot of customs vary a lot among spanish speakers depending on their origins; such as Spain, South America, Central America or the Caribbean Islands.

  2. That is how it is Examples:

Usually that is found in questions

Que hiciste tu? What did u do.

Donde habias ido tu? Where have you gone?

when it is not in a question adn the lyrics u said why the "yo" was there is usually for emphasis " donde naci "  is fine but if u add " donde naci yo" that it gives emphasis to "you" . OH yeah if they lyrics was " donde yo naci" then actually wouldnt have any emphasis it would just be a regular you.

    hope this helps

  3. "Yo" means me. "Tú" mean you.

    La tierra donde nací yo.

    Lo que mñas quisistes tú.

We use that to make emphasis on who are we referring

yeah, we do that a lot!!!

  4. La tierra del borinquen donde nacido yo

    is like

the land of borinquen where born was I

    yo = I

in spanish you need to turn words sometimes, if ur a spanish speaker when u learn english they teach u to turn over some words

  5. It is done for emphasis sometimes like "Si, lista estoy" is like putting emphasis on the fact she's ready. It is also done to make something more almost like poetic, such as in the blog entry you are talking about. If it was put before the nacido it just seems to get in the way. It all seems to flow better if it is at the end, don't you agree? haha. If you just listen to the language enough you can tell when it sounds better afterward and when not.
