  1. i have to say... because the government isnt providing enough incentive to make it an easier effort... and the people for being lazy to actually help the environment...

so for now... the individuals will have to take the hit for the environment for the "greater" good hopefully...

although recycling is just a fix for the problem, not the solution... we should look to stop creating so much trash...

  2. Recycling also burns up energy, including fossil fuel.  It even costs money to manufacture the blue bins and to transport them to your home.  Employees in the recycling  stations have to be paid for their time and effort, as has already been pointed out

$60.00 per month seems like a lot of money.  Recycling is, in the long run, a worthwhile and even a necessary measure.  The need for it probably will increase in the future.  I think people need to do as much as they can for themsleves as individuals.  For example, they need to cut down on paper as much as possible.  If they used cloth rags and handkerchiefs as much as possible, it would even make a difference, in their pockets as well.  I guess enough has not been said on the matter of plastic bottles, aluminum cans, unnecessary glass containers, styrofoam containers and disposable diapers.

  3. Because the only things that are profitable to recycle are metals and a some kinds of industrial waste.

  4. The trash companies have to handle the recycling separately from the regular trash, adding man hours of work.  You would also be surprised that many just toss the recycling bins in with the trash.

If you sort it yourself and take it to a dedicated bin or center, it helps with operating cost.  The problem with recycling is that the volume recycled is usually not enough to pay for operating cost.  The paper fiber, plastic, glass, and metal have to be in very good quality and high quantity.  Many recycling programs are operated at loss or with grants.

  5. Wow, I can't believe you have to pay. In Ca recycling is a profitable business. Some cities require recycling others make it as easy as possible so they can reap the financial benifit of it.

www.earth911.org can help you find your nearest recycling centers. I would strongly encourage you to keep up your effort and get involved with your local government and put pressure on them to get with the program.

The other approach is try to reduce what you actually need to throw away. I use very few disposable items, so I have less garbage. You can also check a website www.terracycle.net they have several programs that give a nonprofit money for several items they use for their products that would otherwise be garbage.

  6. Wow that sucks, it should be free it is here and is obligatory for apartment buildings that have 9 or more units.
