Why is rooming with your best friend a bad idea?

I'm about to room with one of my really good best friends in college. I'm afraid that it'll be a bad idea bc of all the bad experiences I hear about other people. Can you please tell me what happened to make you two ex-best friends?

  1. When you are just best friends at the end of the day, you get to go home.   Living with your best friend is something different.  When you just want to get away and go to your space.. That is your friends space to.  You are so close to your BFF that you don't really want to say anything to hurt their feelings, but sometimes you need your space.  Also, anything that your BFF does that kind of irritates you now - magnifies, because you are with them 24/7.

This doesn't happen to everyone.  I know people who lived with their BFF and they are still good friends.  Unfortunately I also know people who lived with their BFF and no longer speak.

Just be sure that you make your own friends and that you make time to spend away from your BFF.

  2. I have lived with different best friends each for about a year, and I loved it... I KNOW what to expect from my best friend... I DON'T know what to expect from somebody I haven't lived with, or possibly even met before. We actually fought on multiple occasions to make sure we were roomies. If you know your best friend well, then I say go for it!

  3. i don't have any personal experience, but this is my thinking.

If you room with your best friend, you won't be making any new friends. That somehow might make you and your friend depend on each other TOO much and somehow start to break apart?

    I don't know 100%.

    Good luck

  4. Well sometimes you learn things when living with your best friend. Like one of you might be a neat freak while the other is a slob and just the little things you learn about them. Like they don't shower everyday and things you wouldn't have known if you weren't living with them. Sometimes just seeing that person everyday and waking up to them can become annoying after a little while.

My sister dormed with one of her good friends and the girl was a complete slob who used her things, played loud music throughout all of the night until eventually she couldn't wait until she could change her room the next year.

  5. living with your best friend can be fun yet annoying!

you share a bathroom with her and everything. sometimes she will bring crazy dudes in or wont clean her side of the room. she might want to go out the moment you want to study. she can be loud when you want peace and quiet. but then again, shes your best friend so she has to learn not to be annoying and give you space at times. make sure you let her know or you life in college could be h**l
