Why is rugby not an Olympics sport?

if you think about it football hockey and basketball are all in the olympics and rugby is not why is this ??

  1. Rugby 7's is on a  waiting list to be entered as an olympics sport

    however i just don't think it would be feasible to have a full 15's tournament in such a short space of time, with the Olympics only lasting 16 days


  2. The tournament would take ages (about four weeks - if played at six different venues - not just the one which would be on offer) and to allow recovery time from eighty minutes of rugby only two matches could be played a week

    The timing would  be incredibly difficult to organise and clash with other rugby tours,

    Sevens is a possibility ( 10 mins each half etc where teams can play about 4 games a day) but full rugby tests and a tournament in the olympics would also undermine the RWC and be a huge expense for what would count as only one gold medal (shared between 22 players).

  3. mary s, greg inglis and aztec soldier are all bunch of homos who dont know **** bout rugby. dont listen to those dickheads. 7s is on the waiting list and might be in 2012 olympics. i really think that rugby UNION (not LEAGUE) should be in the olympics, at least the 7s. and by the way, it AINT boing...

  4. I think it should be, its more global and more played than baseball, so is cricket. They should also add darts, that would be a guaranteed gold, silver and bronze for great britain

  5. aztec soldier needs to travel the world more. i know for a fact rugby is very popular in Asia and Africa. try going to an international 7's game(in another country).

    7's should be included in the Olympics.

  7. Rugby is not really popular in other parts of the world (Asia,Africa Latin America ), aside from USA and some parts of Europe..

  8. Rugby is moving towards being a global game. The IRB which governs world rugby has it's own world cup. Their could be a case for amateur rugby in the Olympic games. But then we field a Great Britain team. and not one from individual countries. But strange things happen you never know what is around the corner.
