Why is russia so ticked of over a DEFENSIVE weapon?

A missile shield is just that, a defense against missiles fired. Why does that make russia mad unless they were plotting to shoot a few in the future and they do not want their money wasted? I thin just because they are angry is a sign of their true attitudes towards western countries.

Um...do the words CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS mean anything to you? We are doing exactly what Russia was doing in the early sixties. If we are trying to defend ourselves from missile strikes from Iran, wouldn't it be more logical to, um, build the defense system in Israel, or Iraq? But you see, that makes too much sense, and we can't have that! No, we have to put the system in Poland, because you know, Iran really hates Poland. My god, this is obviously just a way to p**s off Russia, and guess what? It's working! And you know what else? It's all going to get worse from here. Georgia's days as a "democracy" are numbered. The only reason the Russian have withdrawn to South Ossetia and Abkhazia is so they can economically destroy Georgia's current government. They want regime change, and it's all because we've been pushing Russia around ever since the Soviet Union collapsed. Now, the bear has awakened, its back, and apparently capable of repeating its past Soviet days. It's only going to get worse, and this missile defense system in Poland is only opening Eastern Europe up to attack. Either way you look at it, Russia is pissed, and their on the offensive. You'd think we had learned from our mistakes, but it just seems like we're intent on repeating them...

First, those defensive missiles can VERY EASILY be made offensive - it's just the matter of filling they carry. And should they become offensive, US will have an opportunity to destroy a great part of Russian territory with minimal response, Russia just won't have time for proper counter-attack.

Second, if this shield will be shield indeed, it would make Russia nearly completely defenseless against US' missile attack. You know, if US/Russia will fire some missiles now, Russia/US will counter-attack just a few seconds later, so both countries will be wiped from the face of Earth. But this shield will be able to reduce the amount of Russian missiles greatly, and America will suffer much lesser damage than Russia, so again those defensive missiles will give US an opportunity to destroy a great part of Russian territory with minimal response.

This missile shield makes Russia an easy prey for US, and there are no guaranties what US will not attack. So of course Russia doesn't like it.

Its an issue of influence. For centuries Poland has been in the Russian sphere of influence. Now the US is entering that sphere. Russia perceives this as an attack on her interests in the region.

In a nuclear war, our missiles can hit Russia's missiles as they get off the ground and not as they're in the air, which is more difficult and our Star Wars has never worked, which is why the US wants them in Poland. Because of this, the US has more of a chance of winning a nuclear war. If the US puts them there over Russia's objection, the first sign of a nuclear strike from the US and it's allies, Russia will start launching theirs in a split second before the US missiles in Poland are launched. So putting missiles in Poland makes the world much more unstable.

WE say defensive equipment..we can hide alot of attack equipment in those buildings..if you were America and Russia wanted to put some DEFENSE structures in Canada would you trust them
