Why is salt water good for wounds?

  1. I'm guessing the salt in the water acts like an antiseptic and may flush out any germs or kill any bacteria?  Not 100% on that but i was told that as a child.


  2. High salt concentration affects the osmotic pressure of bacterial cell, hence, it is good for wounds.

    I also find this in wikiAnswer: Salt is a bacteriostat (stops bacteria replicating) and it acts as a cleaning agent, removing dead skin cells and dirt from the wound.
