Why is self image important?

To have the purpose and quality be quantify into reality... for whatever the guiding influence would lead it into. A name is enough for it but by excellence, recognition and awards are into it which complicates freedom and liberty.

Self image is important because if we dont like how we look ourselves then we lose confidence and self esteem. It is not the most important thing of all in our life, but if we learn to like who we are, then others will see us how we do...

I think it important. the phrase "only when you love yourself, can you love someone else" springs to mind. If you learn to love your own self image, then you can love other peoples self image. I don't think children should be worried about self image, but in todays world they probably are.

Because the ego/mind tell us so.  It is actually only a product of consciousness, hence the name "Special Ephex,"  and it is based on perception which is not reality.

Image is not important as such is an illusion or, at best, a subjective view.

Understanding of the true nature of the self would seem to perhaps be more important as well as more beneficial to the one and to all others as it would allow the one to see the true nature of all that is as it is (i.e., objectively).

Self image is often mere "ego", or the "I" trying to take center stage as if it existed and was separate from all else that is.

A self image is how you view yourself.  Usually people with higher self images are happier people.  Another question you may have is about self hatred.  People who hate themselves, tend to be pesstimistic and lonely.  If you hate yourself, you may end up doing drastic things like suicide, cutting, etc.  If you love youself, bad things could happen too.  It is better to know youself but not to "know" yourself too well.
