Why is singer Celine Dion so widely loathed?

I don't "get" all the antipathy. What's up?

Personally I love her, she's the best singer in the world for me! As for the people who dont like her...I'd say it's because of her age difference with her husband or some other unknown reason..Even so, regardless of what people might say, she is one of the most respected artists in the world!

maybe it was titanic....she became like somewhat of an icon after that. people tend to get sadistic on icons.

cause she does all those jerky head movements when she sings to emphasize the emotion of the song, and she does all those air-grabs. its so irritating to watch.

I think it's just that she hasn't got the "look" and the "cool personality" that some other pop stars have. But it doesn't make her any less of a great vocalist.

I think she is  a great singer, great personality and will be remembered for years, unlike the Jonas bros. or Miley whatshername.  Who she marries is who own business.

Obviously she is not widely loathed, otherwise she wouldn't have sold over 200 million albums, have fans from every corner of the world, and be the best selling female artist of all time.

To better answer your question, I think those who may loath her do so because they don't believe Céline is genuine. They don't think she could ever be as kind as she is, all of the time. But she is. She's truly a wonderful person, who has always remained humble and down-to-earth. She's an outstanding human being - not to mention a phenomenal talent.

I'm just not a fan of her music.  I can't explain it.. PLUS she was way overplayed when TITANIC came out.  It was a beautiful song with a good movie it was just drilled into your head.. So, I suppose that's why I don't like her as a singer... I'm indifferent to her-I guess.

I don't really care for the kind of music she does, but I think she has a fantastic voice and I admire anyone who has gotten to where she is after starting from nothing. I'm like most of the others I didn't know she was widely loathed. She's O.K. in my opinion. I don't concern myself with peoples looks. she's a singer. If she was butt ugly I wouldn't care.It's all about the music.As for her gestures, check out most rock lead guitarists.They usually look like someone just stuck a knife in their back.

Whats sad here is people saying that Celine is

Self absorbed

Canadian

Her husband is old

If ANYONE knows celine , you will be able to tell that she is one of the few GENUINE People we have in todays world.

So what if shes canadian ? dont be bias ( all the greats are mainly non american)

so what if the person she is happy with is old?( love has no age)

so what if you like cheesy music and enhanced voices and cant appreciate true talent? Celine is a gem

and always remember .... The higher you are in this life...the more people will try and bring you down.

One day the haters will find love and wont envy Celine for emitting that!

If Celine sing songs about hate , and ripping peoples heads off and and cheating on boyfriends ,etc the haters will love her

For eg.

My cousin hated Celine with every fiber in her body , couldn't understand why Celine  sings love songs and is always happy and crying ..to her that was being fake.

Now my cousin met this guy and she considers him her soulmate and cant see herself being without him...loves him to death and they enjoy every moment together

Well to make a long story short,,, shes in love and no longer lacks it.

she is happy everyday and cries for anything and everything that makes her love life...she now says this life is beautiful ....

in other words....shes Crazy over Celine now.
