  1. Because if someone said 'I'll meet you at that coast' you could end up anywhere. BUT if they said 'I'll meet you at SKELETON Coast' there will be no confusion and you'll meet up and have a great day out.

    Names are handy.

  2. Skeleton Coast ~From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeleton_Co...

The coast is named for the bleached whale and seal bones which covered the shore when the whaling industry was still active, as well as the skeletal shipwrecks caused by rocks offshore in the fog. More than a thousand vessels of various sizes and areas litter the coast. Notable wrecks in the region include the Eduard Bohlen, the Otavi, the Dunedin Star, and Tong Taw.

  3. The coast of Namibia that is but Namib desert. In the almost rainless sandy beaches white whale skeletons and also boat wrecks, giving the name 'Skeleton coast'. The upwelling of cool Benguela current, bring lot of nutrients and so the sea is full of marine life and fog. Fog makes sailing hazardous and the land ward waves make it difficult to launch a boat.
