  1. only to those who believe in demons.  i dont.

people becoming paralyzed in their sleep is a myth.

  2. Because paranormal has become forfront of mass media and reality television. With paranormal is angelology and demonology, thus making anything uncomfortable "demonic attack". Unfortunately with this much media attention, new "green" teams are popping up, and proclaiming themselves as "demonologist". When that happens they fail to educate themselves in a rounded research and study, meaning that they ASSUME it's demonic attacks, when in fact it can be something as simple as apnea, sleep paralysis, neurological disorders, etc.

It's fancy and "smart" sounding to announce that it's demonic, go in and do some parlor tricks to "make the demon disappear" and announce to the world you took care of this problem. Instead of asking, advising, and pursuing what a natural cause it is and offering legitimate help. It makes your website look "better" if you have demonlogist listed as a paranormal team.

  3. Sleep paralysis is real and people being frozen between awake and asleep  can be frightning especially when you hallusinate sights and sounds .

  4. Fear, Panic, and half in the dream state......

  5. Because people sometimes "hallucinate" and those particular people believe in demons.

  6. When you are awakened but are unable to move your mind creates a cause for this immobility.  For some it's demons, others ET aliens, an old hag or a dragon.  Examinations of worldwide accounts of sleep paralysis have indicated the culture and belief system play a part in the "cause" your semi-conscious mind creates.

  7. It is always easy to blame we cannot understand on something we label demonic. Especially in sleep if a person believes in demons and the devil then anytime  a real bad dream or night mare is so real they tend to blame demons. A good many will not even accept the possibility that ghosts exist and will say it is demons pretending to be the ghost of a relative.

  8. because the majority of people have never heard of sleep paralysis, nor do they understand how realistic the hallucination is.

During sleep paralysis, a person often feels helpless, and scared, and often there is the vision of a figure standing over them, or sitting on thier chest.

Also for the majority of people its a one shot deal. Its rarely a repeating incident unless the person has narcilepsy, in which case they are used to weird hallucinations and sleep problems anyway.

If you had never heard of sleep paralysis, and experienced it once out of the blue, you might just assume its a demon attacking, aliens, or something else.

Of course, sleep theorapists would never tell you its a demonic attack, nor would any doctor or scientist who was on the level try to convince someone that it was a demonic attack.
