  1. you are a dying breed you should try to quit on your trip

  2. Most cruise lines have banned smoking on cruise ships apart from designated areas, (the pool bar is normally fine because it is open air, and the outside decks is normally OK although NCL don't allow smoking on the Promenade deck.)

You will know what side is Starboard because that is where all the smokers will be grouped.

If you stand looking towards the bow of the ship (the sharp end) remember " there is no red port left".

    Red Light: Port side: Left.

The right side looking forward is starboard.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  3. On a ship, the bow is forward, the rear is aft.  If you are on the ship and you are facing the bow, to your right is starboard and to your left is port.  Some people remember this by saying both left and port have four letters in the word.

So, what the cruise line told you is, it is okay to smoke on the right side of the ship on the open decks (in other words, the outside decks - not the inside decks).

  4. You can smoke on the starboard side of the open deck and if you have a fancy room with your own deck you can smoke there too.

You can't smoke on the portside deck nor in any other area of the ship.
