Why is so much attention given to Jack the Ripper?

when he was neither the first nor the most prolific serial killer? There are so many other killers available for study, and studying those we can talk to and trace their backgrounds and medical histories might help us to recognize them earlier in their careers.

actually, the reason that Jack the Ripper has been given so much attention isn't because of what he did to his victims. there have been MANY other serial killers do worse things.

However, Jack the Ripper has been given so much attention because people THINK he was the first serial killer because during the times that he was killing is when newspapers started being popular so this was the first time that many people had even heard of these things. Therefore Jack was the first name they heard so he's been given much more attention.

Because of what he did to the women he killed. Whoever the guy was, he was very good at doing autopsies while the victim was still alive and bleeding.

It takes a special kind of insanity to kill people the way he did.

Another factor is no one knows who the guy was. Everybody loves an unsolved mystery.

I guess because he was never caught and he virtually got away with killing all those women and to this day  no one knows who he was. Everyone likes a good mystery.  Also, all the conspiracy theories  surrounding who he may or may have not been. Some think he was someone in higher power like a Freemason  and that's why he never got caught also some speculate his killings were ritualistic in nature.  It's a  very interesting unsolved case that  interest people.

Probably because to this day, his identity remains a mystery ~ even though there are theories out there on who he was, not enough proof to pin an identity on him.

Media coverage may have something to do with it also.
