  1. Not enough worldwide appeal


  2. Because the US has dominated softball for so many years.  If it had anything to do with world wide appeal there wouldn't be fencing and air pistol in the olympics.

Yep - lack of worldwide participation in the sport (same for baseball).  However the IOC have stated they could re-enter the games at another time, they just weren't voted in to be included in 2012.   World wide participation is defined as having male participants in at least 75 countries on four continents and female participants in at least 40 countries on three continents - not that every single last nation on earth plays the sport.  No sports would make the grade then.  There are more requirements, listed in the link I have posted.

  5. Both Softball and Baseball are not going to be competed in the 2012 Olympics in London - not sure why but I think it is because not every country has a soft/baseball team.
