  1. Because Venice is sinking!! No, really!  They were talking about closing the city off and only letting small grounps of tourists onto it at a time to try and make it last longer....

They are looking in to ways of tryign to stabilise it.

  2. because of the canal of petrols lot of water that shouldn't entry, entries, so there are in italian the "acque alte" (high water), and there is a lot of erosion.

the little isles of venice are also not natural at all, but they are fortified with wood in past

(sorry for the english........if I could say it in italian, I'll write more)

  3. A new report by archaeologist Albert Ammerman suggests the ancient city of Venice, Italy may be sinking faster than previously thought. Venice, which, rests on millions of wooden piles pounded into marshy ground, has sunk by about seven centimeters a century for the past 1,000 years. The new report says that it has subsided 24 centimeters in just the past 100 years.

  4. Some are built on islands in the Venice lagoon and they need to build a barrier against rising sea levels.

  5. In part because of the water level rising world wide. In part because the canals do not get dredged regularly and in part because portions of the lagoon have been filled in. Also, parts of the city are sinking. In any case - the city has always been sinking and this can be seen at some of the excavation sites - where buildings are being restructured. You can see where "sidewalks" have been raised, door ways raised. You can see parts of buildings that used to be used for ground floor storage are now taking in water and or have been raised and are no longer suitable to store goods - just your boat.

  6. So, you saw all that water as well. Gee I wondered why the buildings were submerged in water...

Do you people not read books?, never learn geography? never read history?

The young never cease to amaze me. Is it the fault of teachers or the fault of a new race of kids - a race without any grey matter between their ears?
