Why is that eating dogs condemned by Muslims in Beijing Olympics?

Is there any Code Of Ethics, or health reason?

Apart from dogs, would they eat anything else?

I just little curious to know the reason.

Chinese eat dogs and Muslims condemn it. It apparently, like the pig, is an animal Muslims can't eat and therefore believe no one should eat it. Not much more to it than that except that it sounds familiar.

It would be nice if the Muslim community condemned blowing people up in the name of Islam though, wouldn't it?

Dogs are considered filthy animals in Islam as are pigs. Muslims aren't supposed to touch dogs or get dog spit on them, otherwise they must wash and perhaps follow some ritual.

Deederba, wrote that pigs are considered dirty because of what they eat.  A long, long! and I do mean long time ago, pigs were considered unclean, because they hard round worms, that's because they spent a lot of time in the muck! or mud and the worm could penetrate there hoofs.  But today, that's just not true.  and there Grain fed, there no longer fed left over table scraps! or rotten spoiled foods.  Muslims do everything based on there beliefs.

I would ask a muslim person.  I don't think anyone here is Muslim and/or at the Olympic games LOL

I don't think most of the world would fancy eating dog either..I think that includes every creed and color of American people as well.

they're considered unclean by muslims. Their religion focuses on cleanliness, and dogs in their opinion are unclean.

LogicosA is on the money. Also, as far as the Muslim thing goes, many simply view dogs as vermin. My husband is in Iraq & he sees dogs kicked, run over on purpose, etc. Not that all Iraqis (of course not all are Muslim) hate dogs...many simply view their existence as one of life's annoying irritants. The Olympics is a big money maker for China. The Chinese government will do anything to please foreigners willing to shell out big bucks at restaurants. It's all about money, which is evident in the horrifically inhumane way the Chinese slaughter their animals (i.e. skinning them alive because a bullet to the head would waste money, shoving them together into cages like sardines in a can because one cage is cheaper than 3). So don't fear. Once the Olympics are over in this communist country, whose government tyrants value profit over humanity (this includes the terrible way in which many Chinese factory workers are treated--but that's a whole other story), the dog cuisine will once again flourish.

Muslims don't eat pork - most hotdogs are of pork - now, if they offered strictly all beef hotdogs, then the attitude may be different.

(I don't eat them because there are 4 teaspoons or tablespoons of lard in each dog!)  not good for the heart!

As for any other meat they will eat - I think Pig is the only anaimal they consider filthy because of what the pigs eat.

It’s neither a crime nor an unethical practice in China, so why change it for the sake of Olympics?

What is “Code-of-Ethics” if everyone of them are killed in the same cruel way? Just behead them or shoot on their head! After all they are pigs, dogs or even dead beef? Those vegetarians are being proud of  not involving in such hullabaloo kind of arguments.

o Put the whole 'pig thing' in perspective: a Muslim seeing a pig near a Mosque is like a vegetarian walking past someone's pet dog. They aren't bothered by it, but they sure as h**l don't want to eat it.

It is common knowledge that dogs are considered dirty animals in the Islamic religion. In 2002, an Iranian hardline cleric was so concerned about pet dog ownership he issued the following statement:

    ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœI demand the judiciary arrest all dogs with long, medium or short legs - together with their long-legged owners,”

Of course, dogs are disgusting, or rather their owners are when they allow their dogs to l**k their faces or sleep in their beds. Cats are a different matter in Islam. The founder of Islam loved cats, famously cutting the sleeve of his coat so as not to disturb a sleeping feline. Yet, my cat is forever l*****g its ****. Both dogs and cats are vectors for disease. Which goes to show that some religious views from the past might have been entirely sensible at the time, even if the rationale for them was not known. Some risks may have been missed, and others can become less important with time and modern understanding of hygiene.

There is however, no Islamic edict that dogs are offensive in of themselves, outside of Mohammed’s view one should stay clear of dog saliva and wash seven times if you come in contact with it. Which is fair comment in my opinion.

We should not think that those eating dogs are MORMONS.

i think you diddnt read that article quiet thuroughly... some cultures have limitations on their diet, islam being one of them. if i recall pork is also seen as a meat unfit to eat. everyone has their stigmas, in the west its taboo to eat insects, its common and a delecacy elsewhere. in the west reptiles are not normally eaten (frogs are amphibians) wherease an aboriginal delecacy in austrailia is goanna ( a very large carnivorous lizard) everyone eats whats available to them. the cusumption of dog in my eyes is no different from cows, i would definely not partake, i dont partake in other meats aside from fish.

they are advised not to serve it beacuse of the large influx of western tourists who would object to it.
