Why is that everybody in families always help the person that messes up their lives by using drugs/gambling?

always get help and their children bought brand new clothes, get to stay rent free with their family just because they have a problem. Why can't family members show tough love and let them learn that life is cruel and that you are responsible for the mistakes you make.

This happened when I was a young adult, too. If somebody was an alcoholic or a drug addict or had babies out of wedlock, they got all kinds of sympathy and help. If a clean-cut person like me was doing the very best they could and ran into a rough spot, nobody cared! They acted like it was your own fault or it wouldn't have happened to you. I never really understood.
