Why is that only conservatives can be "patriotic" and what exactly is the definition anyway?

I am beginning to notice that some of the conservatives on YA see themselves as patriotic and liberals as unpatriotic or worse. Why is this and what defines someone as patriotic?

patriotism: love for or devotion to one's country

I know I love my country and support it authority and interests. Do you? If so, you are a patriot who is patriotic and shows your patriotism.

Someone who is patriotic is a person who loves and respects their country and is willing to fight if need be to keep their way of life protected. I do not agree that you can't be both liberal and patriotic. Because every individual is different. It just seems to be the trend that liberals are more concerned with world as a whole and how we are perceived by the world then the country itself.  And most would like to keep the peace at nearly all costs. At least that is what I have noticed....hope that helped!

Because Republicans stand by the Troops, our men and women in Uniform. We don't curse them, tell them they can't win, we don't protest their jobs, nor do we protest at their funerals if a Soldier gives up his life for us. Liberals do that, for the most part.

Republicans stand by their country, love it like we love God, and our children.

It's because liberals tend to be dissatisfied with the war, and conservatives see that as unpatriotic, so the conservatives use that to spread dumb patriotic messages about being pro war, and how war is good, and how Middle Eastern people are evil, and all this c**p.

How can people post such ridiculously myopic posts?  How absolutely ludicrous it is to even suggest that a person who calls him/herself "liberal" (or "conservative") can not be "patriotic."  I was born in the U.S.A.  I've lived here my entire life.  I've vacationed in the Rocky Mountains & Padre Island- lived on the wheat field plains of Kansas, and the flat lands of North Texas.  I find the diversity of  America's geography, people, political & religious beliefs to be awe inspiring.  The United States Constitution is a document I hold sacred.  I consistently vote & write my representatives in office.  I know the Pledge of Allegiance, the "Star Spangled Banner," and Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" (an angry protest song).  And, guess what?  Yes, I'm a PROUD liberal/progressive.  Now you f***king tell me I'm not "patriotic."  Only an imbecile would do such a thing.

To be a conservative means you have the right to make as much money as you want in any way that you want, with no responsibility to others.

To be patriotic means to be willing to fight for that right.

To be liberal means to be a threat to those who want to make more money than they will ever need.
