Question:

Why is that people accused of crimes, and the papers "accuse" them before trial, they do not get money BUT????

If its anything to do with the McScam case they get £500,000+

First self confessed child neglecter's Kate and Gerry get £500,000 and now Murat is to get up to £500,000

They are ALL STILL the main suspects in the case

Guilty or not, it is not on is it??

People accused of rape, murder, racism, burglary, or any other serious crime by the tabloids and even the TV news portray them as guilty from day one

Do they receive £500,000 before they are "cleared"???

Or Ever???????

What is it about this case that from my point of view, everyone is in it from the money

  1. The McCanns have never admitted to child neglect.  And I think that in most cases of reporting, the papers do tend to remember that most people are presumed innocent until found guilty.  The only case that fits your scenario is that of the campaign as led by the Daily Mail, against the presumed killers of Stephen Lawrence.

The trouble with the sensationalist stories is that you can prejudice juries, thereby forcing a mistrial, if the case should come to court.

Editors should be more careful.  If juries aren't allowed to know the accused's previous history, then neither should the general public.

  2. It all comes down to your interpretation of what the papers are actually saying.  If they report that you are a suspect or have been accused / charged then that's okay - most news agencies choose their words carefully.  If they state or reasonably infer that you actually did something then that's libel.

It would be interesting to see if someone who successfully sued for libel was forced to repay it if they turned out to be guilty.

  3. This whole case is seeping with lies and treachery and lacks the truth, which is what happened to Madeleine; the forgotten one. This whole case has been dominated by money, power and politics and is unprecedented by way of cover up and protection of the perpetrators... The term - 'leave no stone unturned' symbolises how clever criminals are but the reality is more sinister than we will ever know...

Murat in my opinion deserves his payout, as he has fully cooperated with the Police and has remained dignified throughout; even though his accusers have ruined his life. There have been many Innocent people involved in this sorry saga but the main one 'Madeleine and the mystery of her disappearance' will remain so unless her parents decide to 'help' the police..... we won't hold our breath on that one though.....
