Why is that the beta value of power transistors are lower than that of small signal transistors?

at the same time collector current max rating is larger for power transistor than small signal transistors........

why is that so... plz anwer.......

  1. Because the goal of a high power transistor is high current and power. Gain is not as important, and is set lower so that the yield is higher. Additionally, gain in a transistor always falls off at higher currents.

    It's easy to make up the gain with a lower power transistor connected in a darlington configuration, if more gain is needed.
