  1. My fish sink when they die :) Fish that float have swim bladder problems. It's usually only things filled with air, or really light objects that float. Fish aren't that light :) So they sink.

  2. NO!    Fish have a air-bladder in the that is like a little sack filled with air to help them swim or somthing. When they die, they cant control it and they float to the top.   If you gut a fish you can find it!!!!    (i did for fun to a bait fish)

  3. Many fish have a "swim bladder" that allows them to float or stay stationary in water without swimming. These fish usually will float for a while after they die.

Other fish do not have this bladder and sink when they die and they sink even when alive if they stop swimming.

When a person dies in water, if the air escapes from their lungs they sink for a time. If they die by drowning, many times their throat constricts and the air stays in the lungs and they will float. As they decompose, gas is produced in their cells and they become buoyant enough to float for a while until further decomposition releases the gasses.

  4. Gases build up due to putrifaction which also happens to humans after a couple of days immersion.

  5. I think it's because fish are so much lighter than humans.

  6. people actually don't float to the bottom until the body starts really decomposing, at which point the water weighs it down.

  7. all these answers are wrong.......humans DO float to the top....your all retarted

  8. Hey I'm confused.. I saw a man died after the storm. He's floating above the water. He is thin. Why?
