I was watching that new show "million dollar listing" on Bravo and a family used the number 126 at the end of their asking price to buy a house. So I was just curious and wanted to know the significance of that number to the jewish people, because i'd been looking everywhere on the internet for it and couldn't find it, so i asked on yahoo answers in hopes that someone out there will know---thanks guys!

  1. It isn't. At least not from the Bible it isn't. The Jews have become a pretty superstitious bunch over the last 2000 years though...

  2. YHWH = name of God

    Y ( 10 )

    H ( 5 )

    W ( 6 )

    H ( 5 )

    = 26

1 is Aleph hebrew letter = Master

  3. Looking over history, has ANYTHING been good luck for the Jews?

    Peace.

  4. The Hebrew language does not have a separate numeric system as English does.  Rather, each letter of the alphabet has a numeric value.  Each word, in fact, has a numeric value, as well.  For instance, the hebrew word for life ("chai") has the numeric value of 18, so when a Jewish person gives to charity, they try to make it a multiple of 18, since that would imply (in the Hebrew) that they are give "chai" or "life".

I don't know what combination of hebrew letters would make the number 126.  But my guess is that it is not so much "lucky" as it is simply a very good word (like giving "life", or giving a multiple of 18 dollars).  (Mind you, this use of the number 126 is conjecture on my part.  The rest, in the previous paragraph is true.)

  5. I'm going to have to agree with no1home2's and plato's answer.
