  1. Mainly because it puts your feet to close together and makes you very easy to take down. Even the traditional boxing stance has to be changed a bit for MMA, and again it is just to defend against takedowns. Most of the primarily striking style stances have to widened out and sat down on a little more in MMA to help defend the take down. Lyoto Machida & Anderson Silva probably use the closest thing to a typical stand up stance in their fights, in part this works for them because they both have such good footwork and move incredibly well, which in turn makes them a little harder to get a good take down attempt on them. On the flip side of that people who get their hands solidly on them usually take them down because their stance is higher and their base isn't lowered to help defend the takedown.

  2. just how often are you going to get in a fight with a jujutsu practitioner on the street?

most textbook "stances" in mma are not like a boxing stance but rather a bit more "squared" to the opponent. a classical boxing stance is quite narrow and limiting. more sideways.

most fighters in know use more of a muay thai stance because you can do anything from it...box..kick..sprawl...etc.

  3. Too narrow. The closed stance makes it easier to get the takedown and the back at the same time. Not good.

Boxing stance is superior and plays into striking/grappling styles more fluidly.
