Not so long ago I remember the AUD being roughly $2.50 to £1GBP and the NZD approx $3.00 to £1GBP, now it's closer to $2.05AUD/£1GBP and $2.50NZD/£1GBP. Why does the Pound remain strong against the US dollar yet continues to weaken in other areas?

  1. The Aussies are clamp down on Inflation. Their Central Bank Rate is 7.25%.  That makes owning Aussie Dollars a better option than British Pounds by a mile. The NZ Rate is 8.25%..

    Bank of Canada 3%

    Bank of England 5%

    Bank of Japan 0.5%

    European Central Bank 4%

    Federal Reserve 2%

    Swiss National Bank 2.75%

The Reserve Bank of Australia 7.25%

    New Zealand 8.25%

  2. a simple answer would be that the rate of inflation is greater in the US followed by GB then AUS/NZ.  less inflation = more buying power
