  1. times they are a changing... and culture has accepted some crazy things... (like Tuesday panties on a Friday) mass media and other forms of our culture have become numb to such profanities.

  2. Words are only 'bad' because we make them bad.  I guess to them, the f word isnt bad.

But, this is a debate I have different feelings about.  Growing up, i was punished if I let any of the bad bad words out, but I was allowed to say shoot, darn, freak, fudge....   I dont understand the difference.  Its all what we as people make out of the word, and I dont understand how changing a couple of letters in the same context makes one word ok and the other not.

  3. I have brothers who toss that word around as freely as my daughter says "you know" or "like".  My husband has been known to slip with that word, too.

A few years ago, I asked them why they couldn't clean up their language, especially around my children, my grandchildren, even their own children.  They all agreed that working construction, factory, and other male dominated jobs allowed them to use foul language more frequently than most people, and it has become a bad habit difficult to break.

We even went so far as to put out a gallon jar to collect a quarter for every F word my brother said while visiting us, hoping to make him at least aware how frequently he said it.  THAT didn't last long.  After contributing about $10.00 during a 10 minute visit, my brother removed his money and placed the jar in the pantry closet.

Since then, he has told me he can't quit, and I am just going to have to accept him, F word and all.

I suppose many people have also become desensitized to foul language, including the F word, and expect the rest of us to just accept it -- although they see us flinch each time we hear it!

  4. it is a way to let off steam some people smoke or drink which is worst don't you think

  5. Good for you for trying to joke about this awkward situation. Sounds to me like she left to avoid the embarrassment of having such a rude husband. If you choose to use that type of language in your own home that's your business. Not everyone in the free world wants or needs to  deal with it. If you were at a picnic it was probably a family event ,therefore, there were probably children around. That's just rude, obnoxious, and ignorant behavior. People should learn to be a bit more articulate and less boorish.

  6. I think a lot of people these days don't place the value on the "F word" in the same way that you do.  They simply don't find it as offensive as you do.  Just simply say that you are uncomfortable with cursing, and most people will respect that.  If they don't, then don't talk to them.  That's their problem, not yours.
