Why is the Federal Government making it a law to have to switch to digital TV?

As everyone knows by now, the Government is making it mandatory for all stations to broadcast in digital instead of analog. (Effective February 2009). Why is it mandatory? It doesn't make sense to me. Is it just another way for the Government to try and take complete control over our lives or will this truly benefit all of us?

  1. Because right now our economy is booming and we can all afford to go out and buy those new TVs and boxes to run them.. (being sarcastic)...Once again, a way the govt. is controlling our FREEDOM.

  2. It IS just another way for the government to control another aspect of  our daily lives....but we get better a picture with their box, so be a good little sheep and accept it.

  3. they are trying to clear up the lines but there is something they are not telling us hey at least you get a coupon @ dtv2009.gov

  4. The actual reason is to clear some satttilites from space and without goin digital you will not get any reception but honestly like everyone else is say the Gov't wants to control the world and its any easy way to do it by making things mandatory

  5. So that the Emergency Broadcast System will work on all television sets. Did you ever see the movie V for Vendetta, when V took over every station to make a statement? It's the same system they are going to use when Bush declares Martial Law and uses his 'Executive' rights to keep his current seat in office. Kidding about the last part...maybe.
