I had not realised that our Government is trying to sell our Nuclear Power stations ot the French. We are already being held to ransom over Gas and Oil prices. Why are we letting control of our Nuclear generation go overseas as well?

We need to stive to be energy independant as a nation, not sell it off like we have done the distribution networks. These networks that froeign owners (EDF etc) have failed to maintain.

WAKE UP GORDON - STOP THIS SALE NOW AND INVEST FOR THE FUTURE.

  1. I suspect it is a bit like the sliding in of commercial companies into our healthcare - profit. Politicians tend to be share holders and this, I feel, is a conflict of interest that should be banned... along with a lot of other scams our public representatives get up to.

Utilities should be nationalised and not used to create obscene profits. We have already been taxed to pay for wind farms that are simply to create profit for shareholders. We will return to the days when our elderly population are too afraid to heat their homes. It is an absolute disgrace.

  2. A very good question, I put a similar one on a few minute ago, and whats more the French have a pretty bad reputation as far as safety in nuclear plants is concerned. To me it is just plain stupid all our governments want do do is destroy all we have built and worked for

  3. I agree that it is totally wrong, but I am hardly surprised to read this when this corrupt government has already sold us down the river to the EU anyway.

  4. i have e-mailed my MP regarding this and he says its to raise funds for the treasury.the nation is almost bankrupt having bailing out the banking system and other various establishments.so i asked my MP if its possible that the government can bail me out and he replied NO.

  5. I agree it's a risky strategy to put ownership of utilities into foreign hands. I know that Russian government owned Gasprom was interested in buying Centrica (British gas) and this was seen as a step too far by our government. The French are our friends though and they do have expertise in nuclear power generation.

I think some foreign ownership is good for our economy. We need the investment but we must not become dependent on the Russians or other threatening countries.

  6. Our energy supplies were sold off years ago under Thatcher, this is the result. Labour can't be held to blame for this situation, unless they re-nationalize.

  7. Good Question - have a star. Remember Gordon is the one who decided to sell of our gold reserves when gold prices were at their lowest.

Short term gain for long term pain. I for one don't want the French handling our nuclear power stations, any more than the Spanish handling our major airports - look what a fiasco that turned out to be!

  8. May be there is some bargain involved. Only one side of the truth is out. May be your MP would be able to ferret out more details. I do not think the British government would have given it on a platter without any thing in return.

  9. what nuclear power stations, are they selling three mile island to the french?
