First they put tougher punishments out for fighting, now they are banning the octopus. What's next, making it illegal to throw a hat for a hat trick?

  1. Fighting is the fun part of hockey????? If that's what you watch hockey for then please change the channel and watch nascar. Fighting is an instrumental part of the game, no doubt, but excessive aggression and violence(Chris Simon) is not fun. Watching hockey for the fighting is like drinking beer for the taste. It's there, you deal with it to get what you want out of it, but it's hardly a feature.

  2. Bettman knows that this gets the crowd fired up... he doesn't want this "unfair" advantage.  Especially when they are playing his Penguins.  The whole mucus issue is a cop-out.  When is he going to outlaw loogies.  Oh, and don't forget the $10K fine if you bleed on the ice.  Blood is way more dangerous than octo mucus, but you don't see any talk of that.  Every other sport requires jersey changes.  In hockey the refs scrape the ice a little, and its all good.

Mucus is dangerous... yeah, good excuse Bettman.  Why don't you go back to basketball so we can get a REAL hockey person as commisioner.  Here's an idea... maybe the Canadian dominated sport, should have a Canadian commisioner.  No... that would be too crazy, he would care too much about the integrity of the game than to busy himself with his own agenda.

I really don't care that much about no twirling, but its just the stupid excuse why not to.  He should have been honest and said he doesn't want to give the Wings unfair energy.  Bettman should tell the Wings to get cheerleaders instead... that is what his "Southern expansion" teams have done.

    Oh, well...

    Wings in 5.

  3. No more Octopus!!!!???? That was our thing!!!  I say whoever is going tonight if we win do it anyways.  The NHL needs to let us havew fun!!!

  4. The NHL has attempted to ban the octopus throw for years. They can create as many rules as they want- the octopus throw will always remain a Wings tradition.

  5. They banned the octopus?

    Wtf?

  6. If you learned that from the headline on yahoo, it is a bit deceiving.  You can still throw them, but the guy who cleans them up is not allowed to twirl them over his head until he is off the ice.

  7. There banning the twirling of the octupus because it leaves a film on the ice that is a potient hazard.  They tougher punishments are not for fighting but for instigating a fight with in the last 5 or 2 mins of the game.  They dont want the losing team to come out and take someone out being cheap.  There both in place for the players, also approved by the players.

  8. Bettman is trying to make it a fair weather sport like the MLB, NFL and NBA. Most fans of those leagues are little punks and would probably cover there face if they saw a fight or an octopus on the ice.

Hockey is a vicious game and it always will be. Good thing Bettman won't be around much longer.

  9. It's because Bettman and the owners wouldn't know what the fans want if it bit them square in the nuts. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the hat thing happens.

  10. Tougher punishments out for fighting?? They have been banning octopus for a long time now...don't worry you will still see them

  11. Yes you can thank Gary Bettmqan for distroying the fun. And yes next year for a hattrick you can only throw wiffle balls because the rims on hats are knocking peaople out haha

  12. I wouldn't be surprised.

  13. You think throwing the corpse of a dead sea creature on the ice is fun?  You need to get out more.
