Why is the Pokemon Pikachu so expensive now?

Remember, that little virtual pet Pikachu that you could give watts to when you walked/shook it? Those used to be like $20 when they first came out. why the heck does that thing suddenly go for like $80 at the cheapest? I wanted to buy another one, but it's probably not worth it if I have to pay that much..

Well, first of all when that came out, it was like 1999 or something... and it's 2008 now so it would obviously skyrocket in price because it's been 7 years since it came out, and it's not avaliable anymore. And back then, they only had the first generation. Now we're up to 4 (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh) so people would want to sell them for a high price since they have been out so long.
