Because the media keeps saying so in the hopes everyone will believe it.

It's not just the money, though it certainly helps!

I think some of it has to do with tradition.  The FA cup as been avidly watched in hundreds of countries well before the advent of satellite and cable.

There was the out pouring of sympathy for Manchester United after Munich, which drew attention and well wishers - condolences to Juventus as a side step for a moment.  They suffered a similar fate in 1949.

And then their was Liverpool's remarkable run of Euro success in the 70's and 80's.

Add to that the diversity of the ethnic makeup of the country now and it's bound to have a snowball effect.

Then when satellite and cable came along, people had already been assimiliated into English club football.  Finally:  Personalities as diverse as Brian Clough Bill Shankly and Matt Busby among others have added to the longest history of club football in the world, and given the game appeal and spice.

How ill - informed he is.  Football is played in nearly every country in the world.  We don't have baseball, ice hockey, basketball and American football "world series" contested by just Americans, with the exception of the odd Canadian team.

Your statement shows how insular and parochial most people in your country are if that's the case.

The Serie A is better. The Premier League has Ronaldo, but the Serie A has Totti-the best player of all time (yes, he is even better than Pele and Luis Figo)

It is because this league has the most high profile stars (and also the highest paid ones) who make this league the most competitive. There are England internationals as well who play their hearts out for the clubs but never do so for their country, England that is.
