Why is the REX HOTEL in Vietnam famous? in Siagon (Ho Chi Ming City)?

I have visited there but I do not know why Americans are so interested in it???

  1. Usually, if a place in Vietnam is famous to Americans, it's because of the Vietnam War. Hopefully this will continue to change in the future and Vietnam will be known as a country...

    But to answer your question, it's famous because it was a luxury hotel - the place to stay - during the French colonial times since it was right near City Hall. During the Vietnam War, it was used by the US Information Agency, so it was the scene of the daily military press briefing. This is how it got into American's daily knowledge - through the nightly news.

    Now it's just one of many luxury hotels in downtown Ho Chi Minh City.
