It used to be a perfect score on the SAT was a 1600. (I think my senior year was the last year it was a 1600! Wow... I feel old now. Lol) But in recent years they increased it to 2400 and added an essay section. What were the reasons behind this change? Wasn't it working just fine for so many years before the change?

  1. They added one more section to help colleges get a better idea of the student's abilities, to help them make better admission decisions.

Earlier, there were 2 sections of 800 each. Hence it totaled to a perfect score of 1600. Now, there are three. So: 800 x 3 = 2400.

  2. There are now 3 sections. I believe they added a writing section. 800 points each.

  3. i think they thought it needed to be more extensive or something... who knows what they were thinking....lol
