Why is the Sox in Red Sox and White Sox spelled that way?

    idk i wondered the same thing.

  3. the newspapers spelled it that way in the headlines... used to be red/white stockings... newspapers wrote Red Sox win first world series.  

  4. I know that for the Red Sox, the words Stockings and Socks were shortened to 3 letters so the jerseys could be even on either side of the buttons.  Using a | to represent the buttons on the jersey,

    RED | SOX

    is much better looking than

    RED STO | CKINGS

    isn't it?

  5. Easier to register as a trademark. Among other reasons.
