getting into the Georgia vs Russia war? I think Bush and Rice should all just stay out of there. They need to let Europe handle it, not us!! I don't know why Bush did this, causing trouble.

Since the Russians did not withdraw yet, what do you think Bush and Rice will do next? I hope they don't do anything that will make the Russians upset and then start a war or something with us. If they do, I'm going back home.

What are your intakes of this situation?

  1. The USA is getting involved because Georgia is an Ally (AKA friend) of the USA.  Also the USA and her allies feel Russia's response was to intense, unjustified, and remenciance of the Soviet Era.  The USA is not alone in this thinking, all her NATO allies feel the same way.  All these nations feel that this is Russia's attempt to intimidate the Ex-USSR states so that they don't try to seek good relations with the west or membership into NATO.

You will see eventual torquing up of pressure on Russia by NATO, to get out of Georgia, eventually you may see the threat if military action, while doubtful and hopefully not.

  2. "true policy [of the United States] is to steer clear of permanent alliances with any parts of the foreign world."

    -George Washington

"Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations – entangling alliances with none." ~ Thomas Jefferson

"The principles of Jefferson are the axioms of a free society." ~ Abraham Lincoln

There seems to me a Europeanization of the United States during the last century and Life on Earth is threatened by it.

  3. "I don't know why Bush did this, causing trouble."

Yep, that says it all (blaming him for this is as 'smart' as blaming him for 9/11, or your oven needing cleaned) ... listen, Georgia is an Allie... the end. Don't they teach Loyalty in the Schools, or did they decide it wasn't "PC"??

  4. Well, we had promised Georgia membership in NATO, just not yet, and membership would have meant all NATO nations would have to commit to protecting a member nation.

  5. Because we already know how Europe will handle it. They will bury their heads in the sand until it is too late and then the price will be 10 fold in human lives and destruction. Europeans and apparently you, seem to subscribe to appeasing, in the hopes that the bear will eat you last.

We've learned lessons from Hitler and Stalin and the US and a few European allies are smart enough to know it cannot be allowed to happen again. NATO notified Russia today that they now risk confrontation, so, figure out who's side you are on, and pull your head out of your third point of contact. You have no ability to alter the direction the wind will blow, so pick your side and ride with it.

  6. If the US didn't get involved, we are the bad guys for not trying to necessiate the situation, then if we do, we still are the bad guys!  It is a catch-22!

To tell you the truth...Georgians are morons for invading South Ossetia just because they are separatists that want to be their own country apart from Georgia and Russia.  And Russia are morons for intervening.  Bush is moron for doing the same!  I hate this foreign policy!  George Washington announced that the US should never be involved in foreign policy!  Why didn't our own politicians listen?
